About Us
Runaways Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue located in Port Richey, Florida serving Pasco County and the greater Tampa Bay area. Founded in March 2020 at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, our organization was created with one goal in mind: to give vulnerable animals a second chance at life.
What began as a small foster-based rescue quickly grew into a full-service rescue facility thanks to the support of our community. In 2021, Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of a dedicated supporter, Runaways Animal Rescue started operating from a renovated 7,000-square-foot facility where rescued animals receive safety, care, and a second chance. This ongoing in-kind support makes it possible for us to continue our lifesaving work every day.
Today, Runaways Animal Rescue has saved more than 4,700 animals and continues to expand our impact through adoption programs, fostering, medical care, community outreach, and humane education.
What We do
1
Animal rescue
& rehab
We rescue animals from overcrowded shelters, owner surrenders, and emergency situations throughout Pasco County and surrounding communities. Many of the animals we take in require medical care, behavioral support, or extended rehabilitation before they are ready for adoption.
2
Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR)
To help reduce the number of homeless cats in our community, we operate a TNVR program. Through this program, community cats are humanely trapped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and returned to their outdoor homes. TNVR helps control population growth while improving the health and welfare of local cat colonies.
3
Community Support
& Outreach
We believe that supporting pet owners helps prevent animals from entering shelters. Our outreach programs focus on education, responsible pet ownership, and helping families keep their pets whenever possible.
our veterinary clinic
In 2025, Runaways Animal Rescue expanded its medical capabilities by opening an on-site veterinary clinic that operates twice per week.
This clinic allows us to provide additional medical care to animals in our rescue while also serving the community through our TNVR program. By increasing access to spay/neuter services and veterinary care, we are able to help reduce pet overpopulation and improve the health of animals throughout Pasco County.
Our veterinary services support both the animals in our care and community efforts to create a more humane and responsible approach to animal welfare.

a Community effort
Runaways Animal Rescue is run by a small dedicated team supported by more than 100 volunteers who give their time and compassion to help animals in need. Every adoption, foster home, donation, and volunteer hour helps us continue our lifesaving work.
As a nonprofit organization, we operate entirely through donations, grants, and community support. We receive no government funding, which makes the generosity of our supporters essential to everything we do.

Mission Statement
to protect, advocate for, and improve the lives of companion animals in need.
We believe every animal deserves compassion, safety, and the opportunity to live a healthy life. Many of the animals that come into our care are facing difficult circumstances—injury, illness, neglect, abandonment, or overcrowded shelters. Our team works tirelessly to provide medical treatment, rehabilitation, and a safe environment until each animal finds a loving forever home.
