Every animal who comes through Runaways Animal Rescue has a story. Many arrive frightened, injured, abandoned, or facing uncertain futures. Thanks to the dedication of our team, volunteers, foster families, and supporters, these animals are given a second chance at life.
Since our founding in Port Richey, Florida, Runaways Animal Rescue has helped thousands of animals find safety, medical care, and loving forever homes throughout Pasco County and the Tampa Bay area. These success stories highlight just a few of the incredible transformations made possible by our community.
Behind every adoption is a journey of resilience, compassion, and hope.

why these stories matter
Animal rescue is about more than finding homes — it’s about healing and transformation. Many of the animals we rescue require medical treatment, rehabilitation, and time to learn to trust again.
Success stories help show the real impact of rescue work. They remind us that every adoption, foster home, volunteer hour, and donation helps change the life of an animal who deserves a second chance.
Clara Bow’s Fight for a Second Chance
When Clara Bow arrived at Pasco County Animal Services, she was barely alive.
The 9-year-old mixed breed was found lying on her side, severely emaciated, dehydrated, and too weak to stand. She weighed just 27 pounds—nearly half of what she should have weighed—and was suffering from painful skin infections, severe ear infections in both ears, and conjunctivitis in both eyes. Her body was covered in parasites, and she was dangerously anemic.
Despite everything she had endured, Clara Bow’s gentle spirit was impossible to ignore.
Our team at Runaways Animal Rescue knew we couldn’t turn our backs on her. She deserved a chance to heal, to feel safe, and to finally experience the love every dog deserves.
Clara Bow’s recovery was not easy. As she began treatment, additional testing revealed Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever, requiring specialized veterinary care, dermatology treatments, medications, and months of patient monitoring. Her progress was slow at first, but thanks to dedicated veterinary care, a loving foster home, and the incredible support of our community, Clara Bow continued to fight.
Little by little, she began to heal.
Her skin started to recover. Her coat began growing back. She gained weight and strength, and the sweet personality that had been buried beneath illness and neglect began to shine through.
Today, Clara Bow is healthy, safe, and thriving.
After everything she has endured, she is finally ready for the one thing she has never truly had—a loving forever home.
Clara Bow survived unimaginable hardship, and her story is a powerful reminder of the resilience of rescue animals and the life-changing impact of compassion.
Clara Bow was adopted on 2/5/2026 to a loving family.
