Lost or Found pet?

Lost a pet?

Losing a pet is scary — but acting quickly can make all the difference. The first 48 hours are the most important when it comes to reuniting with your furry family member.

  • Start by asking friends, family, and neighbors to help search right away. Walk or drive your neighborhood calling your pet’s name and check common hiding spots like bushes, garages, sheds, and under porches. Many lost pets are found close to home and often picked up by someone nearby.

  • Next, focus on your community. Hang bright, easy-to-read posters around your neighborhood and at nearby intersections, vet clinics, and local businesses. Include a clear photo, your pet’s name, the last known location, and your contact information. Don’t be shy about knocking on nearby doors — neighbors are one of the best resources in finding lost pets.

  • Social media is one of the most powerful tools for lost pets. Post clear photos and details in local Lost & Found Pet Facebook groups, neighborhood pages, Nextdoor, and the Ring app. The more shares your post gets, the higher the chances someone recognizes your pet and reaches out.

  • You should also register your pet on Petco Love Lost, a free national database that uses facial recognition to match lost pets with animals found at shelters and rescues in your area. This tool has helped reunite thousands of families.

  • Be sure to check all local shelters and rescues — not just one. Good samaritans may take found pets to different locations depending on what they’re familiar with. Visiting in person is best whenever possible.

  • Finally, confirm that your pet’s microchip and veterinary records have your current phone number and address. Microchips only work if the information is up to date.
